Our Package
Every Hedgehog leaving our location has been thoroughly and individually examined by a Veterinarian specializing in Exotic Animals and comes with a Health Certificate from The Burloak Animal Clinic (Burlington, Ontario). We also include lineage information and their Registration number from the IHA. Taken together, each Hedgehog comes with the following:
1 Hand tamed, happy and healthy baby Hedgehog of your choosing, lacking only a name.
1 Individually signed Health Certificate for your Hedgehog's Health Guarantee.
1 Birth Certificate with IHA Registration Number - I will update the file once you find a name.
1 Hand-made Hedgehog Blanket for Comfort and Ease of Transition.
1 Supply of your Hedgehog's Current Food and Instructions on Switching Foods.
Shipping Policy
We will ship within Canada only at the expense of the purchaser. Since WestJet no longer ships live animals out of Hamilton airport, the cheapest place they can fly out is Toronto via Air Canada. I only ask for $20 to cover the gas to and from Pearson International. The cost will also include the container (~$35) and a food dish and water bottle (~$10) required by the IATA Live Animal Regulations, which you can keep upon arrival. NOTE: There is no additional cost for shipping 2 or 3 Hedgehogs beyond extra dishes and water bottles (4 to 6 requires a second container and effectively doubles the price). If a method other than air travel will suffice for your location I will do my best to find the cheapest route. While it is not impossible to ship outside of Canada, we do not export our babies for many reasons.
Our Policies, Terms and Conditions
We will not sell any baby younger than 8 weeks but generally keep them until they are 10 weeks of age to ensure they are happy, strong and of the highest health status. We will not ship any Hedgehog younger than 10 weeks of age to ensure an easy transition. All costs of shipping are the responsibility of the purchaser, but I will do my best to provide the most inexpensive route to your location. Shipping is dependent entirely on weather and will be postponed without notice should a storm, extreme heat, undue cold or any other hazard arise. I will inform you of the decision to postpone shipping as soon as reasonably possible. All requests for shipping must be setup by email first, even if you intend to pay via PayPal.
We provide written proof that our babies are healthy and free from any known congenital or contagious disease when leaving our location. Although we do not offer refunds, should your pet not survive shipping or become sick within seven (7) days of leaving our location we will exchange it for another hedgehog of equal or greater value, as determined by us and replacement availability. We must be informed of the death or illness within the seven (7) day time period and may request you return the body or sick Hedgehog to us, at our expense, before replacement is considered. We strongly encourage taking your new hedgehog to an Exotic Animal Veternarian, but will not reimburse any costs associated with such a trip unless we specifically request you do this prior to returning your Hedgehog for replacement. We are not responsible for replacing any animal who was injured or died as a result of carelessness, neglect or delayed pickup from shipping on the part of the purchaser. We will work with you to find a mutually convenient delivery time.
Shipments of multiple babies are cost effective and encouraged. However, do not assume you can keep the babies together once they arrive. If your babies are from the same litter it MAY be possible to house them together for a short time after arrival, provided they are never separated long. If your babies are from different litters DO NOT put them together until carefully determining their compatibility (see Hedgehog Care). Additionally, never house Hedgehogs of opposite sex unless you intend to breed them. If this is the case please review the Hedgehog Care and Breeding sections and do your research.
Any hedgehog at any time after purchase that is diagnosed by necropsy with Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS) will be replaced with the next reasonably available unrelated baby for the cost of shipping only. If no necropsy is performed, replacement is not possible. This offer is used to help track the presence of WHS in our herd, which has currently never been observed in our breeders or their offspring. A positive diagnosis of WHS will result in all related breeders being immediately retired and warnings sent to all owners of related animals. Necropsy is therefore necessary to verify the claim as this could have widespread consequences to more than just our own Hedgehog herd.
If the purchaser were to ever decide to get rid of their pet Hedgehog (no reason required) we at The Hedgehog Emporium ask you return the unwanted pet to us and we will either keep it as our pet or find an appropriate home for the Hedgehog. We strongly advise against re-selling your pet to another or giving it away as a "present".
